In July 2025, Oroton unveiled its new Double Bay boutique — a space that feels less like a traditional retail store and more like a thoughtfully curated home.
Designed under the creative direction of Sophie Holt, the interior balances warmth, texture and restraint — elevating the in-store experience beyond conventional retail.
When working with brands of this calibre, exterior elements must complement the architectural vision without overpowering it.
The Brief
The requirement was clear:
• Minimal
• Refined
• Timeless
• Aligned with Oroton’s elevated aesthetic
The awnings needed to provide functional shading while maintaining a clean, understated street presence in Double Bay.
The Solution
OBA supplied and installed:
3 × Heavy-Duty Fixed Pivot Arm Awnings
Fabric: Dickson
Colour: Orchestra Noir 6028
Sizes:
• 2 × 2440mm (W) × 1000mm (Projection) × 800mm (Height)
• 1 × 2280mm (W) × 1000mm (Projection) × 800mm (Height)
• 220mm straight valances
Powder Coating: Dulux Duralloy – Black Matt
The black-on-black specification creates a sharp, architectural façade statement while maintaining brand subtlety.
Why Fixed Pivot Arm Awnings?
For this project, a fixed pivot arm awning was intentionally selected over traditional canopy-style awnings.
The reason was simple: proportion and restraint.
Unlike canopy awnings, which introduce bulk and heavier structural framing, fixed pivot arm awnings offer:
• A slimmer profile
• Minimal visual weight
• Clean horizontal lines
• An elegant, architectural presence
For a premium retail brand like Oroton, the façade needed to feel refined — not decorative.
The slim-frame pivot arm system allowed the awnings to integrate seamlessly with the storefront glazing, maintaining the boutique’s residential-inspired aesthetic while still delivering practical sun protection.
In high-end retail, less is often more.
Hand-Painted Sign Writing
Each valance features hand-painted “Oroton” lettering in white, positioned centrally.
Unlike vinyl or digital applications, the signwriting is completed by brush — introducing a human touch that aligns beautifully with the boutique’s curated, residential feel.
Subtle variations and minor imperfections are part of the craftsmanship and authenticity of traditional hand lettering.
Design Outcome
The finished installation achieves:
• Clear brand presence
• Refined façade detailing
• Functional sun protection
• Cohesion with the interior concept
In premium retail environments, restraint is powerful.
The awnings don’t compete with the architecture — they frame it.
