Case Study: Outdoor Blinds & Awnings for Matteo Double Bay

Matteo is a vibrant neighbourhood trattoria in the heart of Double Bay serving delicious foods and drinks of Southern Italy. Outdoor Blinds and Awnings had a pleasure working with Matteo in designing and constructing a custom outdoor space that would greet the diners with outmost welcome, provide shelter from any kind of weather and be stylishly cosy for those Instagram shots.

Project Framework

Located in beautiful Double Bay in a terrace building with history and character, Matteo presented a challenge that we did not shy off. Two outdoor areas: the front of the restaurant with a sunlit deck and gorgeous bi-fold doors and a spacious courtyard with terracotta coloured walls with decorative plates displayed as art at the back of the restaurant.

The product choice had to provide fluid integration into the existing settings with minimal space and flow disruption. As a result, the courtyard was fitted with Med Evo Pro Retractable Fabric Roof with integrated LED lights while the front of the restaurant was transformed with ScreenTex Zip Outdoor Blinds and Med Evo Pro Retractable Fabric Roof.

The courtyard of the Matteo restaurant is now enjoying the Med Evo Pro Retractable Fabric Roof. Our ability to create custom designs for our clients ensured a stunning solution for the courtyard. Slim and minimalistic frame and support posts, all powder coated in white were placed strategically on the back wall of the courtyard, while the main unit that retracts the roof is adjacent to the opposite wall. Two posts are placed in the corners and fitted with drainage system, while two more posts are placed around the feature wall thus integrating smoothly into the existing design and layout of the courtyard.

Front Deck Integration of the Med Evo Pro Retractable Fabric Roof

Utilising the same principles Med Evo Pro was installed on the front deck. Unique benefits of this roof system allows us to install the Med Evo Pro as a permanent structure. The retractable pergola can tolerate high wind speeds up to 75 km per hour, while customisable incline from 12° to 25° allows us to create a perfect solution for any project. Integrated gutter system channels rainwater down through the support posts, so once the roof is closed no water can sip through.

Finally, we closed off the front deck with the strongest on Australia market ScreenTex Zip Outdoor Blinds and created a room that could be opened or closed to create that perfect dining atmosphere. Innovative spring activated system controls the way the fabric is stretched in a constant and homogeneous way in every stop position of all 4 sides. This ensures greater stability during windy conditions, while specially designed zipper ribbon and aluminium side channel create a strong, smooth and streamlined finish – providing a seal that would not blow out in the wind.

All ScreenTex Zip blinds are connected independently and can be operated on demand. Custom white fabric ensures privacy and protection from wind, rain, excessive sunlight and insects.
